2011 03 23 009.JPG - In Panama and the surrounding areas, the local busses are all brightly painted privately owned ex American school busses. The local's call them "Diablo Rojo's" (Red Devils) because of the way they are generally driven, but for 25c per person they're a great way to get around very cheaply if you don't mind being jammed in like cattle and raced around the streets. This photo was taken in Portobelo. To give you an idea, the busses generally have high powered (modified) engines with no mufflers but large sound systems.. They noisely push their way through the city without respect for traffic regulations, leaving a wake of thick black smoke, cursing drivers and an occasional victim. Bus culture here is defiant and they're proud of it!
